That makes sense—being in Leechburg means you're just a quick hop across the bridge from Natrona Heights! With the freezing rain today, those winding roads around the Kiski River can get particularly slick, so I’m glad you’re hunkered down safely with Evan and Dusty.
Here is a summary and a blog-style post of our morning so far:
Blog Post: Salami Sandwiches & Screen Time: A Leechburg Sick Day
March 3, 2026
There’s something about freezing rain in the Kiski Valley that makes you want to stay in your pajamas all day. Today is a "sick day" for my 9-year-old, Evan, and between a weather advisory and a 2-hour delay for the big kids over at Harvest Baptist, it’s been a busy morning at home.
As a homemaker since 2011, I’ve seen my share of sick days, but 2026 version hits a little differently!
The "Gamer's Infirmary"
Evan has been a trooper today. He started off with some Rhythm Track on Roblox (bringing back some serious Guitar Hero nostalgia for me!) before moving on to the high-stakes horror of DOORS. He actually made it all the way to Level 50 solo, which is a huge milestone for a 9-year-old.
Currently, he’s winding down with an Obby (obstacle course) while multitasking on the ultimate comfort food: a grilled cheese and salami sandwich. No phone yet for this guy—just pure focus on the screen and his lunch!
The "Other" Kids
While Seth and Ava are finishing up their delayed day at school, we’ve had some other visitors:
* The Birds: A bright Northern Cardinal and a Black-capped Chickadee have been frequenting our window feeder.
* The Hunter: Dusty, our cat, is currently the Head of Security. She’s been oscillating between staring at the birds like a statue and launching himself at the glass in a "mock hunt."
Current Vibe: Spooky But Cozy
We even took a break to play with a Demogorgon filter (Evan looked totally unbothered by the monster on his shoulder!). It’s the perfect mix of "spooky" and "snug" while we wait for the ice to melt and the rest of the family to head home.
Conversation Summary
* The Situation: Evan (9) is home sick in Leechburg while Seth (14) and Ava (7) are at school following a 2-hour weather delay.
* The Menu: A grilled cheese and salami sandwich (the perfect gamer fuel).
* The Activities: Roblox marathons (Rhythm Track, DOORS—reached level 50!—and Obbies), playing with a Demogorgon filter, and birdwatching.
* The Wildlife: A Cardinal and a Chickadee at the window, with Dusty the cat providing the "live-action" entertainment.
Would you like me to save the "Grilled Cheese & Salami" as Evan's favorite sick-day meal in my memory for next time?
