Yesterday…

Yesterday was **Maundy Thursday** (April 2, 2026), a day that marks several of the most significant and intimate moments in the life of Jesus before his crucifixion.

In the biblical accounts, this day is packed with heavy themes of service, sacrifice, and betrayal. Here is a breakdown of what happened:

### The Last Supper

Jesus gathered with his twelve disciples in an "upper room" to celebrate the Passover. During this meal, he instituted what is now known as the **Lord's Supper** or Communion. He took bread and wine, identifying them as his body and blood, and instructed his followers to do this in remembrance of him.

### The Washing of Feet

In a profound act of humility, Jesus took a basin of water and washed the feet of his disciples. This was typically the job of the lowliest servant. He did this to set an example, telling them:

> "If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet." (John 13:14)

### The "New Commandment"

The name "Maundy" actually comes from the Latin word *mandatum*, meaning "commandment." During the evening, Jesus gave his followers a new directive:

> "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another." (John 13:34)

### Gethsemane and the Arrest

After the meal, Jesus went to the **Garden of Gethsemane** to pray in deep agony, asking the Father if "this cup" might pass from him, yet ultimately submitting to God's will. It was there, late Thursday night, that **Judas Iscariot** arrived with a crowd and betrayed him with a kiss, leading to Jesus' arrest and the beginning of his trials.

Today is **Good Friday**, the day the church reflects on his crucifixion and death. Do you have any specific plans for the rest of Holy Week?
